Daniela M. Suares

Drawing on experience as Of Counsel and an independent advisor to law firms, built upon an earlier career in active legal practice, I bring a considered and independent perspective to complex and unsettled legal questions.I hold a Master’s degree in International and European Law, specializing in International Law and Global Governance, from Tilburg University, as well as a Master’s degree in Netherlands Antilles Law from the University of Curaçao (formerly UNA), complemented by active working knowledge of Curaçao, Aruba, and the broader Dutch Caribbean jurisdictions.My focus is providing independent legal opinions and analysis, separate from the day-to-day conduct of a matter. This allows me to examine a legal question and evaluate alternative interpretations with objective distance and precision.

Engagement Structure

Engagements are undertaken at the request of instructing counsel and are intended solely for their internal consideration. Each engagement focuses on a specific legal question or issue identified by counsel for independent analysis.The resulting written opinion sets out my assessment and conclusions in light of the relevant law and the information, documents, and factual context provided to me.

Fee

A fixed fee is quoted for each engagement, based on the complexity, scope, and urgency of the work.Work begins once the quoted fee has been accepted.

Professional boundaries

My role is limited to providing objective written opinions on specific legal questions, informing counsel’s own assessment while respecting client relationship and counsel’s professional responsibilities.I work exclusively with instructing counsel and do not provide legal advice or services directly to their clients or organizations, undertake litigation, or assume responsibility for the conduct or strategic direction of a matter. Responsibility for advising the client or the organization and for determining the overall conduct of the matter remains with the instructing counsel.My opinions assess the relevant legal issues in light of the applicable law and the information, documents and factual context provided for each assignment.
